Sunday Times Top 400 Schools

This week's Sunday Times ( 11 Mar 2012) has published a new guide to what it defines as the "top 400 secondary schools" in the Republic of Ireland - including many of the schools listed in our own guide to secondary schools. They ranked the schools on the basis of "the average proportion of pupils gaining places in autumn 2009, 2010 and 2011 at one of the nine universities on the island of Ireland, [the] main teacher training colleges, Royal College of Surgeons, National College of Art and Design, or any English, Welsh or Scottish University or equivalent". As well as listing the proportions of the schools' students that got into universities, the article also listed proportions of students that got into to universities and institutes of technology combined.

If you missed the paper version, you will have to take out a subscription to to access it online via this search page.

Preparations for First Communion on May 12th

First Holy Communion for 2012 takes place on Saturday May 12th at 10.00am and 11.30am in St Annes Church. This post is a summary of a letter sent to Second Class Parents - the full letter and the relevant booking form can be down loaded here.

To celebrate this wonderful occasion the Parents Association host a small breakfast in the School Hall for the children and their families, directly after each Mass. This consists of a sit-down party for the communion children, a goody bag for the brothers/sisters and a welcome cup of tea/biscuits/sandwiches for the adults. There is a small charge of 15 per family to cover the costs.

 The boys wear a white cotton robe over their own clothes for the Mass - the cost of hiring this is 12 (hiring/ dry cleaning costs). You will be provided with details of collection times etc. nearer the day.

 As cameras and video cameras are NOT ALLOWED in the church during the Mass, we have hired a professional photographer to record each Mass as follows:

1.    The arrival of the children at the main door of the Church;
2.    The entire First Communion ceremony;
3.    The children outside the Church after the ceremony.

This is a great keepsake for the children as they grow up. The cost of the DVD is 19.

There is a lot for us to organise on the day, therefore we would appreciate your co-operation in completing the attached Booking Form and returning it in the envelope provided with the correct amount of money on or before Friday 22nd April.

Thank you for your assistance, and we look forward to seeing you on the day!
