Mr. Halligan Says Goodbye to St. Annes
Our much loved Principal, Mr Jim Halligan, retired in June at the end of the last school year after 31 years in St. Annes, the last five as Principal. He returned on 25 November where he said goodbye to the pupils at his last Assembly - and then to parents at a reception hosted by the PTA. Here are a few shots from an emotional morning - and as always the best is last!
The PTA would like to thank Mr. Halligan for his enormous contribution to the School during his long teaching career and to wish him a long and active retirement - particularly his writing for children, his painting and his gardening.

Mrs Bell's and Mr Newman's Retirement
The PTA would like to sincerely thank all parents and
pupils both past and present who contributed to the collection of letters and
cards for Mrs Bell and Mr Newman. They were each presented with their
"case of good wishes" on their retirement from St Annes School in
June. Between them they have enriched the lives of so many children in the area
sharing their varied interests and talents. As parents we really appreciate all
their hard work and dedication over the years. We wish Mrs Bell and Mr Newman
all the very best with their future endeavours.

John Lonergan On Parenting
On Thursday March 11, John Lonergan came to the St Anne's Parish Resource Centre to give an extremely entertaining and educational talk to parents and teachers from the three Shankill primary schools - St. Annes, Rathmichael and Scoil Mhuire. John, the former Governor of Mountjoy Prison, spoke to an appreciative crowd on "Parenting - The Challenges and Rewards". He was also selling his book "Parenting - Raising Your Child in Ireland Today", from which all royalties go to the children's charity Barnardos - it's available in bookshops and on Amazon.

Secondary Schools Info Evening - Tues 27 January
On Tues 27 January next, the School is organizing the biennial secondary schools information evening. Details will sent out by the School in the run up to the event.
This quick post is to remind parents that the PTA has a list of 36 secondary schools in south Co. Dublin and north Co. Wicklow that is a useful starting point on this topic. There are four versions of the list, sorted by distance from St. Annes, gender, school size and ethos.
Note, however, that this list was last revised in 2012 and may not be up to date in all respects. There is also an error in that Loretto Secondary School in Bray is incorrectly listed as fee paying . The PTA would be grateful to be notified of errors at stannespa@gmail.com and we will update the list.

To finish up, we must repeat that the PTA has prepared this document and the accompanying list of schools in good faith to
provide impartial information to the School’s parents on the issue of choice of
secondary schools. It does not provide any recommendations to parents on this issue. While considerable efforts were made to
collect and verify information, the Association cannot be held responsible for any errors or omissions.
